Brief Biography



Prof. C. Visvanathan

Chettiyappan Visvanathan received his B. Tech, Chemical Engg, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India; M. Eng., Environmental Engg., Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand; and Ph.D. Chemical/ Environmental Engineering, INP Toulouse, France. He was a Project Engineer/ Environmental Engineer, Asia Division at the International Training Centre for Water Resources Management, CEFIGRE, France, and Consultant to UNEP-Industry and Environment Office, Paris, France before joining AIT in 1991. Since 2001, he is a Professor at the Environmental Engineering and Management field of study, AIT.

Prof. Visvanathan has been involved in teaching academic and professional training courses, and has supervised more than ninety master theses and doctoral dissertation. He has directed a large number of sponsored and contract research projects in the areas of waste minimization and waste auditing/clean technologies, industrial environmental management, solid - liquid separation technologies for water and wastewater treatment, desalination & membrane technology, urban solid waste management and 3R. He has published over 100 papers in international journals (details can be obtained at: He is in the editorial/advisory board of many journals, and member of many professional bodies.
